YVD 9.0 Final (yay)

Things to note:
*The installer is right around 5.6MB, if you get some sorta "cannot verify .msi" message on your windows check the filesize. Ive gotten a few reports of incompleted downloads.
*Ive not tested the installer too much, if it craps out on you leave a note in the topic with what OS you are running.

Ive also released a zip that contains all the files but wont register the dll, ocx, and font, files for you, so its plausible you`ll run into errors.

Im not doing much fanfaire with this release (As in triggering a notice in 8.6 or even putting this on the downloads page, which i plan to do later) due to a few things:
*I need to Finish XC`s new layout and recoding
*I need to Finish Help documentation for 9.0
*I need to be sure bugs are fixed in wide release.
and now to layout news:
Today behind the scenes i did about 90% of the ladder code. Here is what was added:
*Ajax Login, this isnt just for the ladder but most of the sites features. You can now login on the exact same page without the entire page refreshing.
*Ladder will now show if you are a former champ on the rankings list, minor but cool for bragging rights.
*Fixed a "streak" error. So it shows your wins/losses in a row correctly.
*Adjusted the system to remove 20 skill points a day if you dont duel during that day.
*Streamlined the duel ticket process. It makes you login to the site just once, no more entering your user/pass each time. Now you simply visit the page and press a submit button to create a ticket, visit a page and press a button to sign, and visit a page and press a button to report the loss.
Also, at some point in the future, i`ll re-run every duel every for the last 5 years and restore everyones ladder stats to "all time" as opposed to "since the last reset". While your current skill will remain untouched, your wins/losses may be updated.

Redo download and run times pages to not suck as much. <~~~ With vista alot of the runtime files wont be needed, also the new installer may take care of this issue as well.
Improve and update set and image download page and supporting code (including a backend for our set updates to add cards/images)
Fine tune new XC layout <~ more done, but still need to do a few things...
Once this list is at least mostly done, i`ll roll out the new updates.

More XC News

Firstly, YVD 9.0 has gone gold. Thats fancy industry speak for "its done."
The beta forums have closed (until I'm ready to test X) and now I'm just getting a few ducks in a row with a few things that YVD relies on (XCs new layout, fixed set downloads, etc) before releasing it. After reviewing my upcoming schedule, it looks like a good release day for 9.0 Final will be this Tuesday.
As for XC itself....
Still working on the new site layout and grand recoding...basically bringing all XC`s features together under one code structure... as well as adding a few new things...
Here is my to do list, in no particular order:

Recode Article Portal
Recode Card of the Day
Add IRC Stats
Add Not yet announced Feature #1
Add Not yet announced Feature #2
Add "card" and "deck" tags to forums, complete with info windows.

XC Changes

XC is undergoing a top to bottom 100% recode to every section of the site short of the forums. If you notice things broken, dont flip out.
New layout is coming too :3
I`ll keep secret all changes to content of the site until new version is operational, but there will be a few new things to see and use.

Forum Fixes

Avatar uploading works again, you can find the "upload avatar" item in the store.
Also if you look around the forums enough you may find a new beta test of yvd or something. forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
BUX WORK NOW TOO, its just given to you hourly.
Update: YVD9.0 final is likely to be released in the next 3 days.
Secondary Update: XC will cease all support on 8.6 on Jan 1st 2009

IRC Network Maintenance

Im going to be testing the rollout of our new irc network control system tonight. This means a few of our servers in the network may be going up and down for reboots later tonight while we test.
If all goes well tonight, i`ll be rebooting all the servers in the network to make all teh changes final, so you may find yourself booted off for a bit.
Whats this new system entail? Its mostly backend improvements for us admins, bascially it allows me to push out configurations to all the servers in our network with a change of a database and running of a script.
This allows us to, for example, make a spamfilter or user ban change permanent by adding it into our database. Before, if a server was rebooted all changes would be lost unless we hard coded it into the config on ALL the servers (which is annoying), this will no longer be the case. If we ban you in the database, you are there for good.
Also, this allows us to add a new server to the network with just an unconfigured ircd and 1 new line in our "servers" table, pretty slick.

IRC Changes and Hiring TDs!

IRC NETWORK CHANGES
Firstly, using irc.xerocreative.com will allow you to connect to our irc networks. While irc.scrollrack.com will still get you there, we will start transitioning the networks name and services to use the "XeroCreative" name.
Secondly, you can now directly connect to the server of your choice by typing in tentacle.xerocreative.com or eskimo.xerocreative.com. Of course, if you dont care about which one you`d like to be on, simply continue to use irc.xerocreative.com
Be sure to update your IRC`s bookmarks accordingly.
YVD SET UPDATES!
Previously the set download for 8.6 was given out with 4 letter set names. Since 8.6 didnt support 4 letter sets, when you used any cards in those sets, YVD would count them as monsters. Ive now modified the sets download script to provide only 3 letter sets meaning even the newer sets will show the correct cards.
Also, Since 8.6 (and the 9.0 betas) cant handle synchros, all the 8.6 set downloads will count your syncros as fusions (its the best work around i can do). Starting with 9.0 'release candidate 1' it will work with synchros properly.
